There's a bit of confusion regarding the name's meaning and relation to Alexandra in Greek. While the ending -andra (feminized from "andros" meaning "of man") is the same, the first part of those names is entirely different. "Alexein" means "to defend," so Alexander means "defender of man." "Luein" is a Greek verb meaning "to free," so Lysander (m) or Lysandra (f) means "liberator of man."
It means Savior or defender of men.
Also a variant of Alexandra.
