My maiden name is Owen so I gave my son the middle name Owen.
I love it. It’s short, but not too short. It’s strong. I like this meaning, the Welsh one, and the meaning of Eugene (though I personally go with this one since our ancestors seem to have come from Ireland). When I was a kid and my brother was called “Owen” often as if it was his first name, he was told it was odd because it was an “old man name”, but these days it fits in with naming trends and doesn’t get that reaction. The only other issue I had is people often thought my name was “Owens” instead of Owen. But I’m sure that as a first or middle name that wouldn’t be an issue.
I like the sound of it, but I’d be reluctant to use it because it reminds me of owin’ money.
I went to high school with a guy named Owen. He was part Irish. I had never heard Owen for a first name, just Owens for a last name. Anyway, I liked the name then and I still do. I just hope it doesn't get too popular. I think when a name gets too popular, it looses its appeal forever.
