Pet A cat.
My niece has this name, she was born in 2000. It is a beautiful name.
I found some of the comments on this name quite hilarious! Nazi... do they actually know who the Nazi's were and what they did? It was an ignorant comment. Quite honestly very insulting to people who survived despite them!
I've had this name for many a year now (!) and have loved having a rather unusual name. It is an icebreaker for one thing. Many a discussion ensues once you explain to people how it is spelt and pronounced.
To say it is associated with the animal rights movement is also crass! That consists of capital letters throughout. Who spells their name in total capital letters?
This name has been so much more interesting than the common, over used names, and certainly makes the song 'A boy named Sue', spring to mind.
Oh no, this name makes me think of the organization PETA. Not a good association. Petra is much better.
PETA is the only reason I hate this name.
Naming your kid this is like naming them Nazi.
The name of a terrorist cult made up of insane hypocrites.
I knew a girl named Peta once. Her name was always mistaken for Peter because we don't pronounce the Rs on the end of words here. I like Petra much better, it's prettier and doesn't have the problem.
PETA (or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is an organization that uses a fantasy version of the Animal Kingdom to promote their agenda. As you can see, it's not a fabulous association.
Not my real name, but a nickname, and I think it's a cool name. I don't care about any of that nonsense associated with the organization that uses that acronym.
Given that we have a lunatic fringe movement in the U.S. called PETA, I would never name a daughter Peta. It also sounds too much like something else people don't want to be thought of as well. Petra sounds so much better and doesn't have the stigmata Peta has.
This is my middle name (only it's spelt Petah). I've always had a love hate relationship with it. I like it because it's rather unique, but I did used to get teased a lot.
I have a lot of problems with this name. First there PETA (as in People for the Ethical treatment of Animals, the extremists). Then there's the fact that it sounds like a 3 year old saying 'Peter'. And it also reminds me of pita bread. ):
What a strange name. Immediately I thought of the Disney film "Peter Pan" (1953) -- when Wendy says Peter, it always comes out as "PEE-tah", as in "But, Peeeeetaaah, how do we get to Neverland?"
This is a stupid name. It sounds like "pita" as in the type of bread, and it's also the name of that horrible "animal rights" organization.
As someone who finds the ads of PETA distasteful and misogynous, I wouldn't use this name. Besides, if the name is pronounced as ''PEE-ta'' instead of ''PE-ta'', it sounds like certain people's pronunciation of Peter.
This name reminds me of the anti-animal cruelty organization PETA, especially when it's capitalized on this site, haha. I wouldn't use this name, since most people would also associate it with PETA, whom I personally am not a big fan of. I'm pretty sure if PETA didn't exist (or just went by a different name/abbreviation), my view on this name may be different.
