It seems to me like Raul is the Spanish form of the Hebrew name Reuel, which means "Friend of God" (from the elements Reu--friend, and El--God). At least, it sounds closer to the Hebrew linguistically than it does to whatever those other names were, Ralph and stuff.Plus I like the Hebrew name and meaning better, so I like to think that the Spanish name would be associated with that meaning. That and the fact that Spanish names are heavily influenced by Biblical names (for example, Sudi, Jesus, Usai, etc.)
