User comments for Roxanne (Famous Bearer Only)

Totally love this name! Roxanne is a female character on "Cyrano de Bergerac" and the name of one of my favourite songs from "Moulin Rouge" - "El Tango de Roxanne".

During the mid-1980s, the world of hip-hop was embroiled in The Roxanne Wars, where more than 100 "answer records" were inspired by UTFC's "Roxanne, Roxanne". The first answer record was "Roxanne's Revenge", by teenager Roxanne Shante. (She used her middle name; her first name was Lolita).

So there are more than one hundred songs about Roxanne from the 1980s, not just the one by The Police (released in 1979, charted in the 1980s).

The prostitute in the song "Roxanne" by The Police gained her name because the hotel the band was staying in at the time had a poster for "Cyrano de Bergerac" in the foyer, whose main female character and love interest is named Roxane.
