Comments (Meaning / History Only)

This name coincides with Albanian shqip (fem. Shqipe) "Albanian", and may be given with that meaning in mind. Alternatively, it may be a blend of Albanian shkabë "griffon vulture [Gyps fulvus]" or, archaically, "eagle" + shqip, since the two-headed eagle is Albania's national emblem. Either way, the name is undoubtedly patriotic in nature.
