As said the name Stine comes from Christine/Kristine and that comes from the name Christian/Kristian which means "Kristen" which is the Norwegian word for being Christian.

This is my sister's name, and she is one of few Norwegians that happened to get their name after Christine/Kristine or names like that. Many girls named Stine have got the name as a full form, not a short form of the other name.
