Comments for the name Titty

Comments for TITTY:

This name is probably best known for its use in the Swallows and Amazons books by Arthur Ransome. Able Seaman Titty was one of the main characters in the Swallows crew who is supposed to have written the stories Missy Lee and Peter Duck.

I read somewhere that 'Titty' was the Italian name for Tweety Bird. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, what a horrid name for a person!

Titty Walker from the "Swallows and Amazons" series was named after a real person called Titty Altounyan.

Her real name was Mavis, which is an old country word for a song thrush.

Small birds were (in more innocent times) called "Titty birds" to children; presumably in the sense of "itty-Titty" or tiny.

So her nickname was just in the sense of a small bird, and was a play on her real name.

I just thought I'd clear that up because a lot of people seem to think her name was Letitia or she was named after Scottish slang.
