My grandmother's name. She spelled it Thyra but the original spelling was Tyra. I like it better with an h.
I always liked this name. It seems pretty yet strong. If you associate it too much with Tyra Banks you could give Taia a try. It's like Kaia but with the T.
I love my name; I've had it since the early 90's and was actually named after my mom! She was adopted and her legal name was changed to Tyra (in the 60's) so I have no idea where it came from (my grandfather is of Nordic decent so I'm assuming there)…either way it was before Tyra Banks or the popularity of the name "Tyrone". I did find out a few years ago that my name is pronounced incorrectly by European standards...which is ok with me, call me whatever because I rarely get "Tyra" the first time anyway (anything that sounds close maybe...including Sarah). Even with all the mispronouncing and people just forgetting…I wouldn’t change my name. It’s beautiful and unique. Can't wait for my name to show up on the new Lord of the Rings series, pronounced the Nordic way of course!
I like my name, I think it sounds nice. Many people pronounce it Tü-ra I always thought that was "wrong” but now I know it isn’t- I just pronounce it like most people in Scandinavia.
I can only see this name in Tyra Banks XD.
I was named after Tyra Banks! My older brother named me. Lots of people think it’s Tara or Tyler. I love my name! It’s very unique and I went to high school with another Tyra.
I'm Swedish and I love this name. Seen a few people saying nasty stuff about this name in Swedish. It's not from your culture, but from ours. The Swedish way to pronounce it is the only correct way to pronounce it. Our phonetic language and naming traditions are very different from English, so what might sound strange to you might sound very beautiful in another language.
The English pronunciation of Tyra is nice. However I like the name Tyra with the Swedish pronunciation better. It has history and also gives me a sense of myth.
Rather pretty in English, but absolutely disgusting in Swedish. Just awful.
I prefer the pronunciation "TÜ-rah" to "TIE-rah". The Swedish pronunciation is always prettier.
This is a pretty cool name in English, just like Kyra is. I also like the sound of Myra, so there's a pattern of coolness of sorts. This name is gawd-awful in Swedish, though, very ugly and old-fashioned.
I think the name is pretty and fun.
