It’s a cool name. Zay-vee-er is my default pronunciation. I’ve heard it pronounced ig-zay-vee-er and egg-zay-vee-er. Either way it’s a cool name.
I like Xavier and feel that it has a flare of sophistication and class that many other names might not have.
This is a pretty cool name, along with Xander. I don't like when people overpronounce the X, leading to "eg-zavier". "ksavier" and "zavier" are better pronunciations.
I like the name Xavier. It sounds strong and modern, and it ages beautifully, in my opinion. I also like that it's not overly common.
God bless you.
I think the name Xavier is a pretty cool name! Plus, it makes a nice middle name, too.
When you see an X in Spanish names, or city names it is replacing either a J or G. With a strong pronunciation coming from the throat, hard to explain in writing. An example would be the Asturian city in NW Spain, Xixon, which is also spelled Gijon and pronounced He-Hon. In Spanish Xavier is pronounced like Javier (Ha-vier). Not 100% sure, but I believe the X originated with the Latin language and remained common in Spain. Especially in the previously Roman occupied regions of northern Spain like Galicia and Asturias. This then spread to Latin America via Spanish immigration.
I like it. It sounds like a savior to me. It's such a cool and handsome name.
Cool name. :)
I really like this name and I have never met someone with Xavier as their first name before. It's a good name.
It's starting with X makes me cringe.
Handsome and wonderful! If I have a son in the future, this will be his possible middle name! Xavier and Xander are the only names starting with X that I like. The Spanish form Javier is just great as well.
Really Really handsome.
I really like this name, it is unusual enough without being weird, love it!
I like it as a middle name. It goes nicely with a lot of names.
It's nice, but I prefer the Javier spelling.
Xavier sounds cool and handsome for a boy.
Very handsome name.
I don’t like this name because of someone I know, who is quite an annoying person! It’s a real shame as I like this name, but I always picture a mean person whenever I hear it.
It’s handsome.
I really like this name, I've always thought it sounds super cool and futuristic. I get the vibe that Xavier would be a really cool, chill, smart guy with either a refined style or an interesting alternative one.
It also reminds me of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) from the X-Men series, a series I always used to love when I was younger.
Nice name. I have a family member with this name so I’d never use it but I think it’s nice.
Cool name but I can't imagine a 60 year old man having this name, oh well...
Xavier is my sons middle name, it's a strong Catholic name. Pronounced Zavier.
My sister named her son, Xavier William. Xavier was the name choice of his father and William after our dad. To all the people hating on this name, nobody is forcing you to like it or to name your son this. Calm down and keep your rude comments to yourselves.
I really like this name, it's easily in my top 10 list of favorite names. I think it's very unique and also very masculine as well; this name's awesome.
I have always wondered whether Xavier is not somewhat derived from the very noble 'Savior' attribute within the Christian faith. Or perhaps the similarity in pronunciation is a mere coincidence.
For some reason, all names that start with X look evil to me... I don't know why.
I personally like the name, I prefer the Catalan pronunciation more than the English pronunciation.
More names ought to begin with X. It's really cool.
My 3 year old has this name. Never regretted it. It makes me think of someone strong- a leader, unafraid.
This is a handsome, cool & awesome name for a boy. ^____^
My best friend named her son this. I didn't want to let her know how much I hated it. It's such a hard name to say and spell, too. When we write emails to each other, we both call him X. I don't think that was her intention when she named him.
My boyfriend's name is Xavier. I have always liked the name, but at first wasn't sure how to pronounce it. At first I always pronounced the X (X-avier). Many other people that know him say it like zavier. Now I say both, it changes each time. Generally, when I say it pronounced with a Z it is more endearing.
It's ok, but I don't see why it's all of a sudden in the top 100. I've only heard it pronounced ex-AY-vee-ur, which sounds the best in my opinion. The French pronunciation is so much more interesting than the English one, as usual! Overall I can't say I hate this name, its just not a favorite. And it's apparently quite popular, although I've only met one Xavier and he was born before the name was in the top 100. Oh, and there's also an actor called Xavier Samuel.
I like best it pronounced ex-ay-vee-er the best but I like zay-vee-er as well.
This is my son's middle name. One of the reasons I chose it is because of how unique and standout it is. It was the perfect name for us to use in the middle name position because it provided a lot of spunk and personality to a very classic first name. :)
Such a great name, truly. I love this name and I have for a very long time!
I prefer the Spanish pronunciation. The English just sounds a little harsh and unnatural to me.
I absolutely love any name beginning with X.
I really like this name! It's elegant, handsome, and sweet!
I knew one Xavier and we all called him Xebbie, pronounced Zebby. I think the name's a little too pompous on its own, but with a nickname like Xebbie, it's less extreme, less elite.
I like the name Xavier. Love the various pronunciations, but hate the HA-VEE-AIR one. I don't like the name Javier, only the 'Xavier' one. I knew an Xavier in high school and we all called him 'Zay'. I think that's a cute nickname also.
I like this name, but I can't stand how people pronounce it with an X sound or even spell it Xzavier or Exavier.
This is a cute name! I have a Mexican cousin with this name. We pronounce it X-avier with the X exaggerated. I think in Spanish they pronounce it HA-vier with the "ha" sound instead of X. Either way, I like it.
I quite like this name! I would personally pronounce it ZAY-vee-ər. It's quite a handsome name, though I'd more likely use it as a middle name than as first name.
This would be a great name if the pronunciation weren't so varied by country, and personal preference! The French za-VYAY sounds best to my ears, but it's not a name I'd like to have as I'm sure I'd hear nothing but eks-AY-vyur or igs-AY-vyur all the time.
Xavier is my 2nd son's name. I love this name. To me, this name is regal. It's elegant and modern. For those of you who hate it, you have no taste. There are many ways people pronounce this name. At first, I would pronounce it Zay-vier but I liked how it sounded when I would pronounce the X. Ex-ay-vier. When I talk to my son in spanish, I say his name Zah-vee-er. His nickname is Xavi pronounced Zah-vee.
I've heard this name here in the Netherlands and I hate it. The x at the front just doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, here in Holland we say ksaa-VJAY.
I always liked this name. It sounds very cool. I will consider this name if I have a son.
I don't like the idea of using saint names or missionary names, but technically, this was the surname of the guy that was both. Despite the rather harsh beginning sound, the name is quite cool. I used to associate this with the German pop singer Xavier Naidoo, who rather annoyed me.
Personally, I love the name Xavier. I think it's a wonderful name implying strength and conjuring images of modern young princes.
Don't give your kid this name unless you're Spanish.
Unless you're Spanish? I really like this name, I think it's unusual without being totally unheard of or unpronouncable. It's got a nice "z" sound if you choose to pronounce it like that, too. I think it's really nice sounding and strong.
I personally really like the name Xavier. I picture a strong, handsome person when I hear this name.
I absolutely HATE this name! It is so ugly! To all Xaviers out there, I am sorry, but that is my least favorite boy name! I hate it!
I happen to really like this name; I think it sounds beautiful and is very classy. A lot of different types of people could pull this name off well. But I have a bias for unusual names. I will jump off a cliff before I name anything John, Micheal or Mary.
I really don't like this name. There is nothing appealing about it and for some reason it is becoming popular. I think it is because of the letter X, but I read somewhere that it is actually pronounced with a Z sound.
Too pretentious. I imagine someone with slick-backed hair, pencil thin mustache, wearing a leisure suit, and smoking a pipe.
