I'm one of the "Jacobs" and I find this nickname too different from the wonderful Russian complete version of my name (Yakov). I prefer the full name in this case.

Yasha is excellent. It has a unique strength to it, but still sounds very lovable and endearing. I'm not as much of a fan of Yakov/Jacob, though.
