Elizabeth in Ukrainian is written using Cyrillic "с" NOT a "з" (English s NOT z)!
Using a Z makes it the Russian version! Traditionally, almost all Ukrainian names have four forms of usage: Religious/Formal, Legal/Semi-formal, Common/Informal and Nickname/can change with age.Єлисавета, Лисавета, Єлиса, Ліса
Yelysaveta or Elizabeth,
Lysaveta or Lisabeth,
Yelysa or Elysa,
Lisa...
Yelysaveta, with an S (Єлисавета, with a C) is the proper spelling and form recognized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and diaspora. This also substantiated by transliteration rules for biblical names indirectly received through the Greek language into Ukrainian.
Additionally, in most cases any Christian name can have anywhere from 1-3 different forms of usage in Ukrainian... Church form = Єлисавета, literary or documentation form = Лисавета and an everyday, common form = Ліса.
Because Elizabeth originates as a biblical name, which was received with the adoption of Christianity from Greek Orthodoxy, the rules that apply have the E in Elizabeth transliterate into a Ukrainian Є and the e = и and the z = c and etc.
Note: Those who prefer to use the z, then in Ukrainian the name is then written Елізавета. But this version is a Russian Orthodox version and not Ukrainian. Just as is the use of the shortened version of Liza.
(no offense to any particular church or nationality mentioned... I am all of the above... name included ;-)
