While the name Zinnia refers to the flower, the flower's name is derived from the German surname Zinn. And Zinn means "tin" and denotes a metalworking bearer. So Zinnia, etymologically speaking, means "tin."
"Zinn" is a German word for "tin".
Since this comes from the name "Zinn" I googled the meaning of Zinn and found out it means "metonymic occupational name for a worker in pewter" and is apparently of German and Jewish origin.
