The name of the Titan goddess of the warming heat of fire, the sister of PROMETHEUS and mother of the metal-working Daktyloi. Her name may be derived from ank-, a prefix meaning "to reveal or uncover" and further elements meaning "heat". Further it might refer to ανκαλε (ankale), a bundle of firewood carried under the arm.
