Meaning & History

Feminine form of EUPLIUS, which is the latinized form of the ancient Greek name EUPLEIOS.

Some sources state that Euplia comes from the ancient Greek name EUPLOIA. If this is the case (which is likely in some instances), then the name is either a Roman corruption or contraction of Euploia, since the proper latinized form of the name is actually Euploea.

Lastly, Euplia was the name of a Roman slave and prostitute, whose name was found in the records of the city of Pompeii. In ancient Rome, slaves usually had names of Greek origin.
