From the Sanskrit word समाधि (samādhi) meaning "placing together", from सम (sama) "together" combined with the prefix आ (ā) and धा (dhā) "to place". This word refers to the practice which produces complete meditation (though usage of the term varies among the Indian religious traditions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism).
