Meaning & History

Georgian sources state that this name is of Mingrelian origin and means "well-set, stocky".

But according to a Russian source, this name is derived from Middle Persian baxt meaning "fortune, fate", which is written as بخت (baxt) in modern Persian.

In Georgian literature, Bakhva is the name of the main character of the 1890 novel პირველი ნაბიჯი (Pirveli Nabiji) meaning "The First Step", which was written by the Georgian author Giorgi Tsereteli (1842-1900).
