Meaning & History

From Sino-Korean 成 (seong) meaning "turn into, become, get, grow, elapse, reach" or 聖 (seong) meaning "holy, saint, sage, master, priest" combined with 子 (ja) meaning "child". Other hanja combinations are possible.

Famous bearers are Shin Seong-ja, a South Korean fencer and Park Sung-ja, a Korean former judoka who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics.
