Meaning & History

Means "white elephant" from Burmese ဆင် (hsin) meaning "elephant" and ဖြူ (hpyu) meaning "white, pure". This was the honourific title chosen by Sirisūriyadhamma Mahadhammarāja Rājadhipati (1736-1776), the king of the Konbaung dynasty of Burma from 1763 to 1776. It was also the name of a 16th-century queen consort of the Lan Na kingdom.
