Of uncertain origin and meaning; theories include a derivation from Turkic-Mongolian *öktem "strong, brave, imperious; proud, boastful; pride" and the verb ökte- / oktä- "to encourage".
Oktár was a Hunnic ruler who, according to Socrates of Constantinople, died in 430. His brother MUNDZUK was the father of ATTILA the Hun.
