Meaning & History

Used by J.K. Rowling in her 'Harry Potter' series of books as a personal name for a minor female character, perhaps due to its similarity to WANDA, taken from the form of #Wakan Tanka# used by the Omaha people. Wakan Tanka means "sacred, divine" in Sioux, and refers to their Great Spirit or Great Mystery conception.
