Meaning & History

Possibly derives from the Hebrew שָׁרְיָה (sharyah) meaning "YAHWEH has sung", from שָׁר (shar) meaning "to sing" combined with יָה (yah) referring to the Hebrew God.

The name was popularized by singer/songwriter Amy Grant in 1985 on the Album 'Ungaurded' entitled song Sharayah.
