Meaning & History

Means "city lord" or "lord of the city", derived from Greek ἄστυ (asty) meaning "city, town" and ἄναξ (anax) meaning "master, lord, chief".

In Greek mythology, Astyanax was the nickname of the firstborn son of Hector and his wife Andromache, named Σκαμάνδριος (Skamandrios) at birth.
