I like Lavender more, but Violet is cute, and a little more sensible.

Violet. I know a woman who adopted the name Lavender for herself, and goes by it. To me it's fake-glammy sounding, I'm not sure why exactly. Sorry to those who like it, but to me Lavender is in the same vein as Allura and Charisma: stagey. - chazda

Lavender! It's number three on my list of girl's names.I did a poll asking about Lally as a nn for Lavender and it was mostly 'no' (last time I looked it was 3 yeses to 22 nos) which is a pity because I thought it worked. I still use it as a nn though.Louise xEDIT: Clarification and additions to last paragraph.

I think Lally could work as a nn for Lavender. Lavender is #4 on my list. :)

what other nicknames were you using for it?

I hadn't really. Lav is the only one I could think of but here in Britain (don't know about the rest of the world) 'lav' is a slang term for toilet though it's never done me any harm (Lou --> 'loo' is also a slang term for toilet here).I thought Lally (or Lallie) would be a good one, not for all the time use (like maybe Bill or Liz) but just for occasional use rather than having to use Lavender all the time. But according to the poll it seems to be a almost definite no :(Louise x

Violet, but I don't care for either. I used to like Violet, but not anymore because I just don't like the sound of it, and it's too close the word violent. Lavender just isn't a name to me, but strictly a flower and fragrance. I can't see an adult named Lavender.

Lavender because I can't think of Violet with out thinking Violent which is not a good association at all...its too bad really cause other wise i would love it.

I always have that same association to it as well. I don't know why that it. However it is my partners grandmothers name. She goes by the name "Vi" which I think is really pretty. The other reason I consdier these names is my grandmothers favorite color was Lavender. She always wore it.

If I could use alternate forms, I'd choose Viola (VYE-u-la). I like Lavender and Violet equally, maybe leaning slightly more towards Lavender.
