[Opinions] Maura?
I've been rereading the appendices to Lord of the Rings, and was reminded that Frodo's real Hobbit name was "Maura". (click Frodo to read why).Anyway, WDYTO Maura? It reminds me of both Moira and Maureen. However, I like it better than either of those too names. It sounds less whiny to me.I can't decide whether I'd pronounce it MOR-a or MAO-ra. Probably the first (from Maureen) in RL, but I imagine in Hobbitish it would be pronounced with pure vowels, more like MAO-ra.~ Caitlín

I like it pronounced like Marah, but I'd probably just use that spelling.

It's alright, it's pretty, but I don't really like it. I definetley prefer the name Laura. And I pronounce the name Maura, the same way as Laura, (Maw-rah)

I see Maura as a female variant of Mauro, I'd pronounce it as Mao-ra and I only like it pronounced this way, I think Mor-a is too close to moron.

I hate the name Maura, but then again, I knew a girl with that name, and she was very mean and snobby. She pronounced it More-Uh. I prefer Moira of the three.

I like it, it's a feminine but strong name and quite unusual, the Hobbit thing is interesting ... although I've never read LOTRI would pronounce Maura MOOR-rah (moor rhymes with poor)I dislike both Maureen and Moira though, I find them ugly
