I think of two characters. The first is from an old show called Too Close for Comfort. Monroe was a guy and very effeminate, dumb, goofy and annoying. I think he's on a kids show now...Ned's Declassified, maybe? The other is from Last of the Mohicans. A somewhat more desirable character, but I can't think of the name without hearing it said in a deep voice with a Native American accent. And it was the guy's surname. For a boy it would be bad enough. For a girl, it's horrible.

Good, I'm not the only one that remembers TCFC. :) JM J. Bullock is on Ned's Declassified now, oddly enough playing a character named Mr. Monroe, lol. I didn't know that, as I've never seen the show (but I do know my 11-year-old nephew watches it) but saw it when I looked him up on imdb.com to check whether the original character was Monroe or Munroe. :b

Most of the posters here are probably too young to remember the 1980s show "Too Close For Comfort," but I still associate the name Monroe with Jim J. Bullock's character from that show--dumb and goofy. The name is not feminine in the least, though.

I like it - not to the point where I would use it, but due to it being Charles Schulz (Peanuts) mn, its one of the more out-of-date names I do like.Oh, and no, I dont like it for a female

Monroe on a woman is horrible! I prefer Monroe on a male.

Honestly, all I think of is a mole. As in, the mole on Marilyn Monroe's face. I don't even think of her first - the mole is all.God only knows why...

Monroe on a boy is bad enough. Monroe on a girl is just hideous.

Reminds me of Marilyn obviously. I once knew a girl who had this as her middle name but I personally find it far more masculine.Eleanor x

Monroe is definitely masculine imo. Also, I think its a bit too sur-namey
