Siri'd be a cute nick for a female Sirius..

"Sirius" sounds just like "serious," and Sirius is the "Dog Star."
As well, the brightness idea is sweet, but will seem quite corny to many. Good luck.

As well as being those things, the HMS Sirius was the flagship of the First Fleet, the fleet which brought the first permanent European settlers to Australia. The "are you Sirius?" thing is a standard primary school joke in Australia, after learning about the First Fleet :-D. The fact that the 2IC ship was the Porpoise, which can be confused with "purpose", makes it all the merrier!
