[Opinions] Maeve
I've LOVED the name Maeve for a long time, but the meaning, Intoxicating, isn't so great, but I am still considering using it for my future daughter. She's bound to find out the meaning of her name eventually. Do you think it's still a nice name despite the meaning, or should I steer clear of this name because of the not-so-great meaning, and do you think she will get teased because it?There was a girl named Maeve in my church youth group, and she seemed to be getting along just fine. The only complaint she had about her name was that people mispronounced it a lot. Thoughts, anyone? Also, have you ever known anyone with this name, and if so, did they have bad experiences because of it?

Are you serious?? What is wrong with the meaning "intoxicating"? I think it's a great meaning! Being intoxicating isn't a bad thing-quite the opposite! :) Maeve is a beautiful name and the thought of someone having bad experiences because of this name is...strange.

do you think she will get teased because it? Most people in this world are not namenerds and do not know the meanings of names off the top of their heads. If your eventual daughter one day goes to like, babynames.com and finds out it means intoxicating... well, what, is she going to announce it to everyone? Plus think: It means "Intoxicating" not "Intoxicated". I don't think if a person is intoxicating, it's all that bad. I rather like it, but I have not known anyone with this name.

What's so wrong with "intoxicating"? I think it's a rather neat name meaning. I've never met a Maeve, but that's a good thing in my book. Personally, I think it's very elegant.

Maeva?I love the name, Maeve, but I agree, the meaning isn't great. You can say, intoxicating like a sunset, love, etc... I suppose because being intoxicated became synonymous with being happy/high, and akin to being in love. The actual meaning of intoxicate isn't a good thing. Toxic? But, yes, besides the meaning. I love the name.Maeva means welcome in Tahitian, maybe this would be a good alternate?

Maeve is a pretty name, if a little plain. I think they mean "intoxicating" as in arresting, exciting, not drunk.

I also love the name Maeve and find it to be very sweet. The meaning doesn't really bother me so much tbh and I think, in general, most people don't go looking up the meanings of other people's names. So I can't see that she'd have a problem with that.

The meaning is one of the things I love most about the name. Intoxicating! I.E. energizing, exciting, exhilarating, invigorating, refreshing, stimulating, etc... What's not to like about that?

I don't think the meaning will be a problem. I have a friend Maeve who says that she likes her name, although she usually has to explain the pronounciation the first time she meets someone. She just says, "Maeve, rhymes with gave" and then the new person gets it.

this has been a favorite of mine for a long time! it's beautiful I think. I don't think the meaning is too important personally. Intoxicating isn't so bad in my opinion though-I don't think it is meant to be intoxicating as in alcoholic but is the sense of a sunset or a love being intoxicating. But it's not a very common name so I doubt too many people would ever even be aware of the meaning. Regardless it's a fabulous choice for a little girl!
