[Opinions] Naia
What do you think of Naia (NIE-ah)?
It is a name that seems to have lots of different origins.

Naia is pretty but I prefer the spelling Nia, also I just find it a little cliche as an international diversity name and would rather see a more creative cross culture name.
I like Naia. It's my niece's name, however; her's is spelled Naja. It means little sister in Greenlandic, which is why my brother and his girlfriend chose it (Naja is the youngest child).
BUT: I was told by a Somali friend that in Somali Naja means b*tch (not as in female dog, but the explicit). That saddens me a bit, but then again it actually fits my niece, who can act like a little *explicit* from time to time... :)

It seems to mean something in almost every language!
It can come from the Greek meaning 'to flow', African meaning 'purpose', Persian meaning 'flower' or 'blossom'..

Rumor has it it's also "dolphin" in Hawai'ian, and refers to the Naiads (Encyclopedia Mythica: "The Naiads were nymphs of bodies of fresh water... [who] presided over rivers, streams, brooks, springs, fountains, lakes, ponds, wells, and marshes."). Because of these two meanings I think of it as quite a watery name.
