[Opinions] Eva/ Ava??
Is Eva pronounced EXACTLY like Ava? I've always pronounced Ava as "Ave-ah" and Eva as "Eve-ah", but recently a my neighbor's granddaughter was visiting and her name was spelled "Eva" and she pronounced it "Eve-ah", but her grandmother always called her "Ave-ah". How do YOU pronounce this name, personally?

The three Evas I have known have been Ay-vuh, but I think they were all Eastern European (at least one of them was Hungarian). I'd pronounce Ava the same way, like Ava Gardner.

They're pronounced differently, yes. I'd say the Grandmother may have had an accent of some sort that made it come across sounding Ave-uh, perhaps?

Eva can be pronounced either way. In certain languages, they alway say AY-vuh.

Eva can be pronounced "EE-vah" or "EH-vah" or "AY-vah", depending on the country/language. Ava is derived from Eva.

I pronounce it both ways. Usually it's Eve-a in English, but I prefer the Ave-a way even though I live in an English speaking country. I would use it on a real kid prn. Ave-a but probably not prn. Eve-a.

I used to pronounce Eva like ay-vuh until I saw Wall-e and the little white robot was named Eva prn. ee-vuh. Ever since then I've just loved that pronunciation.

In English speaking countries I'd say AY-va (Ava) and EE-va (Eva). In many European countries however Eva is pronounced similarly to Ava. I'm from Germany and we say AY-fa (Eva) and AH-va (Ava). Is it possible that her grandmother is from a non English speaking country?

In Scotland I have only ever heard Eva pronounced EE-VA and Ava pronounced AY-VA. I personally prefer Eva although both are very lovely.

I say EE-va (Eva) and AY-va (Ava). But......I think there are people who pronounce Eva "AY-va" too, following the pronounciations of Eva in e.g. Spanish, German etc. that sound almost (!) like AY-va.
