[Facts] Gian
How do you pronounce Gian? It's listed on BTN, but there's no pronunciation. I would assume it's something similar to Gianni, like Gee-ahn, but I'm not sure. That's why I thought I would ask here. Thank you.

It's basically pronounced like Gianni but without the long ee sound at the end. So it would be like "Jan" but with a slighlty harder "j" sound and an open a sound.

I knew someone named this that was Italian. He was born in Canada. He pronounced his name like "Jan."

I've heard it as ZHAHN.

?I don't get what that pronunciation guide is saying. It looks like it's saying to pronounce it gih-an (hard g)... which is definitely incorrect. The only question is whether it's one or two syllables. I know I've heard it with one before, but am not saying that it can't be with two.

That guide is wrong. In Italian, the group GI + A,O,U represents always the sound [ʤ] (like the English J). Gian has only a syllable ['ʤan] (JAN).

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks. :)
