I've always liked it. A friend long ago had the world's most gorgeous little sister called Eloise (they were quite a family: Ann, Karen, Lucinda called Cindy, Eloise) and that sold me on it. Later on, I compared it with Louisa and it came out on top by miles.
My mother was once horrified to meet an Heloise who pronounced it HEL-loiz. I prefer it to look English rather than medieval French, which should avoid that problem! Given enough daughters, I'd use it merrily, though possibly for a mn rather than a fn.

Sorry, but I really like it and so does my DH. Not sure that it would flow that nicely with our surname though.

I love it because it reminds me of this beautiful little pumpkin (the smaller one): http://www.flickr.com/photos/thefrons/4759306568/. I thought it was nice before, but once my sister named her second daughter that, I really started to love it.

I can't stand it. It is that "wheeze" sound at the end. Icky icky, no thank you! Weirdly enough though, I do quite like Heloise.

Aww, I love Eloise. It always seemed like a bright, "happy" name to me somehow.

Uhm, my reason is much more... shallow: I love the accent marks and I love the French pronunciation of Héloïse. So I probably should have said "I'd only use it in a French-speaking area". *turns as red as a beetroot*

Nooo Hints From Heloise was like the Martha Stewart of my mother's generation (and earlier!) - it was a 1950's women's column. My mom used to talk about it a lot, so maybe I'm more preoccupied with it than I need to be!
aw don't be embarrassed. I feel that way about a lot of names too. I'm sure if I ever heard a French person say the name Héloïse I'd prefer it too!

Ah! Ok! Thanks! It's just that I found a site saying something like Heloise and her hints were going to Fox Morning News or something, so I assumed she was the new national domestic goddess. ;-)

I used to hate it, mostly by association.
But then I met someone who had a daughter named Eloise who's my son's age, and she's the cutest little thing. It made me see a fresh, girly, upbeat side to it. I rather like it, now.

Eloise is spunky and vivacious. I love how it bounces around before settling on the final "eeeeez" sound.
