It is an armenian surname. It means "son of Simon", in Armenian "Simone". The suffix "yan" or often "ian" means "son of".
The armenian people have been dispersed partly throughout the world. Often we say "armenian diaspora".
Presumably Nvard is armenian too, but I couldn't find out the meaning.
