Jane! Its more classic and less dated. I have seen Jayne, Janae and Gill too, but I dislike them all. I only like Jane.

I prefer Jill, because it's a nickname for Gillian to me and I like Gillian (Jillian is ok, but prefer G). Jane is just plain Jane, dated and boring to me.

I prefer Jane; it's sleek, timeless, and elegant. Jill is cute, but I see it as a nickname instead of a given name. I think both names age well, but Jane especially. I've also seen the spellings Gill (which I dislike because of pronunciation problems) and Jayne (where I think the y is unnecessary).

I love Jane. She's lovely and elegant and friendly and capable, and I can see her at any age. Definitely prefer Jane to Jill; it's not even a contest. I've seen the Jayne spelling which isn't the end of the world, but I prefer Jane as it is.

Jill feels like a nickname to me, and kind of plain, informal. I picture a child more than a woman, but I don't think the name actually *sounds* childish when said aloud. I've seen it spelled with a "G" and this I dislike.

I choose Jane way above Jill. I personally know 3 Janes (all middle names, though, with 2 being spelled Jayne). Jill doesn't sound as remarkable as Jane. Jane is steadfast and true while Jill is silly, annoying, and unremarkable. I prefer the spelling Jane over Jayne (the only variant I've seen used). For me, the "classics" always age well ;o) That's why they are referred to as "classics."

I like Jane more, but I also like Jill. One-syllable names are great.
Jill as a stand-alone name works best with a J, imo: Gill is fine as a short for Gillian, but looks a bit fishy on its own. I loathe all other spellings of Jane.

I think they're both relatively nice (on other people's children) and it would depend on what it's paired with which is more appropriate.
I've seen Jayne, which is ok, but Jane is preferable. I don't like it spelled Jain and someone I know used Jaine for a daughter... don't really like that either.

I think they age just fine. Can work for an old lady or litle girl or something in between.

I like them both about equally. And I think they're among the names that work for any age at all, from newborn to great-grandmother.

I'd be more likely to use Jane than Jill, partly because Jill can sound dreadfully flatfooted in some people's local pronunciation and partly because I'd probably go for Gillian, with Jill as a nn ... but then you get spelling issues.

I dislike Jayne: unnecessarily fussy, trying to take a modest girl and turn her into a lap dancer. And I can see the point of using Gill instead of Jill if one's name is Gillian, but I'd spell it Jill anyway to avoid having people say Gill as if it was short for Gilbert.
