Help[Opinions] Levi and Löb
I watched a TV coverage about the life of Levi Strauss today. Just when I was thinking about how I really like Levi, I learned that Levi Strauss was born Löb Strauß. Now Löb would be quite unique today and while I think I'd rather use Levi after considering Löb for a while I thought I'd bring it up here anyway. So is Löb to nerdy even for a name nerd or would you consider it instead of Levi?

Does Lob rhyme with the word, "cob"?
I've been rolling it around since I saw your post earlier and I'm having a hard time hearing that sound as a name. I keep thinking of a tennis match.
Levi is nice. He sounds trustworthy and sensible to me. :)

Not exactly. Cop would be KAWP for me while Löb was said LUUB (German) and LOB (English) on TV. The 'o' sound is the same as in 'boat' or 'cone' for the English pronunciation if that helps.

Okay, Lob with a long "o" sound is definitely better; sounds more like a name than the way I was saying it. Of course, now my tennis match has been replaced by anatomy class. Sorry.

What does Löb mean? I've never heard it before.

I don't know. Levi Strauss was a German Jew, so it might be old German or Yiddish. I'm not even sure if he chose Levi because it's the correct translation of Löb or if he just picked a short biblical and more international name that also started with an L. Löb and Loeb seem to be common last names though.
