Carla is a lovely name, and certainly more usable, but the parents wanted people to know they honored Carlos Santana. If they named their daughter Carla, people wouldn't think twice.

Okay, I get that.I wasn't thinking of it from a public recognition viewpoint, just a personal one of knowing themselves why they chose the name.If I name a son after my father or a literary character or a president, it won't matter a bit to me whether the general public understands the meaning behind the selection, the whole point of it is personal, for me...so that's where my head was.You make a valid point. :)
