Help[Opinions] Gwenith vs Gwyneth
Do you pronounce them terribly differently? They would sound about the same in my area but I if I really concentrate on differentiating between the 'i' and 'e' sounds within the name I prefer Gwenith to Gwyneth and Gwen to Gwyn. Also, I rather like the imagery I get from Gwenith - which seems much warmer than Gwyneth, to me. But, with Gwyneth Paltrow being a prominent figure Gwyneth seems like it would be the most intuitive. So which do you prefer and WHY? I'm having a hard time deciding

I pronounce them differently: GWEN ith and GWIN eth. If I had to pick one I'd choose Gwyneth, because Gwyneth is a fairly ordinary name and Gwenith is a very unusual variant. Also, it's too agricultural for me and makes me think of wheat gluten.
I think it's fine to use Gwen as short for Gwyneth. Gwyn is a boy's name!

I pronounce them slightly differently. GWEN-ith and GWIN-ith. But I think of Gwenith as a masculine name (because of the meaning, and I swear I read once that it is/has been used that way too) and Gwyneth as feminine. I don't really like Gwyneth. It seems too airy to me. But I love Gwenith (on a boy). :)

Looking at Welsh usage, Gweniths have mostly been female (in use since 1882). There were s few boys though.

I assumed it was mostly feminine, but I just like the idea of it on a boy. I'm glad there were some so it's not an entirely crazy idea. :)

Yeah, I think it is. Not that wheat couldn't be feminine, but it makes me picture handsome rugged farmer man. Swoon. :)

Thanks for your response. Like I mentioned to mirfak, I like the look of Gwen a thousand times better than Gwyn but I also dislike Gwendolen (which seems clunky to me) so that's where my problem lies :/ Also, I'm not normally a fan of altered names either but "gwenith" is the Welsh word for "wheat" (which is why I like the imagery I get from it) so it's not necessarily and altered version of Gwyneth.

Hehe, I do like Gwyneth though! Like I said they'd likely get pronounced the same where I live so I guess I just hadn't given much thought to which I ACTUALLY prefer. I am beginning to lean toward Gwenith but I'm drawn to the comfort and ease of Gwyneth
