[Facts] Re: name meaning
in reply to a message by carol
"Shiraz" is the name of a city in Iran. If you check out this website...http://www.netiran.com/Htdocs/Clippings/Art/980230XXAR01.html...you will find that it says that the city was named Shiraz because of "its similarity to the stomach of a lion (Shir in Persian)."So, presumably, "Shiraz" means "having the stomach of a lion". Whether that's a literal or a figurative meaning, I don't know. If it's figurative, then I would say that "Shiraz" could be a name to denote courage -- or a dangerously carnivorous appetite. :)-- Nanaea

So if a woman walks by in Iran and you comment "Nice Az!", you're really admiring her digestive system?

Well, I suppose you'd have to admire the "guts" of any Iranian woman who'd let you see her "az" to spite the Taliban. :)-- Nanaea
