Considering the place the concept of donations have in modern society, I don't think Donatien would fly very well as a person's name.

I disagree, as I know a guy named Donatien, and he gets many compliments, and wears the name well.

Perhaps it would just depend on the person too and how he wears it... and it's possible those who don't like it are just too polite to say anything to his face.
