[Opinions] Re: Selena
in reply to a message by Lily
I think I prefer Serena, but I like Selena too. Between Selena, Selina, and Celina, none of the spellings really stands out as better than the others, but I'll try to rank them by most to least favorite. Celina: My favorite just because it's a family name; one of my grandmother's paternal aunts was named Maria Marcelina and called Celina. I do prefer the open crescent of the C to the serpentine S, now that I think about it. I used to live near a town in the Dallas area named Celina, pronounced seh-LY-na, and, boy, it aggravated me. I wonder if a Celina would run into that pronunciation anywhere else in the world. Selina: Seems a tad spunkier and stronger, somehow, than Selena. Funny how they're both six letters, but Selina looks more compact, more tightly put together, while Selena seems to sprawl by comparison. Plus, it's Catwoman's name, so that's fun. Selena: Not my favorite, but still quite nice. I associate it with late Tejano-Pop singer Selena and Selena Gomez. It feels the most modern and has a lush, Latin prettiness to it.
