For a long time, I really never cared for the name Megan. I just thought it was boring, and didn't have a particularly nice sound. Lately though, it's grown on me and I'm starting to see the appeal. I think the reason why it seemed kind of dull to me before was the popularity. So yes, I'd say the popularity has ruined it somewhat, unfortunately. I'm from Canada and I've heard all three pronunciations. Most common are MEG-in and MAY-gin (I only know of one MEE-gin). MEG-in and MAY-gin seem almost interchangeable to me...there's not much of a difference between the two if you say them out loud so most of the time, those two pronunciation differences go unnoticed I think. I pronounce it MEG-in.
