No, Alexander's family has a tradition of using full names, that's why I go for one or two syllable names. They will be Miriam and Thomas, although I find Thomas a bit too formal. Tom is adorable, I wonder if I could swing that with Alexander. (Mim is also a wee bit close to Mimi, which is what the grandkids call my mom)

That's fair enough. My family is a really big nickname family, no child of mine called Miriam or Thomas would ever stay that for long even if I insisted on it. That's why my mind always goes to potential nicknames whenever I'm looking at a new name :)

Mine is, too. It will be interesting to see how the two family dynamics work out - my pro-nickname family and his anti-nickname family. I'm 30 years old and my family still refers to me as Fave and Favey.
