I used to really dislike Petra, but it has grown on me. I like how it is so down to earth. It's also not frilly at all which I appreciate. I'm getting a bit annoyed by all those cute, pretty names that end in -ella or -ana.

I knew two really cool Petras so I have good associations with the name. It makes me think of someone really smart, sweet and calm.

Do you pronounce it PET-ra or PEH-tra?

I really like Petra. It makes me think of my brother, since his mn is Peter, and I like the associations of stone and the ancient city. Strong, strong name.

If I say it really slowly, the first syllable is definitely PET, so PET-ra.

I love Petra. It's just charming and fresh. I've never met a Petra, so I don't have any association to cloud or enhance my impression of the name - I just like it.

I say PET-ra most of the time, I think.
