The pronunciation DAM-a-Riss doesn't appeal at all. I guess this is the correct pronunciation. But I did have a teacher who read us a story about the Pilgrims and one of the Pilgrims was a girl named Damaris, and the teacher pronounced it Da-MARE-Iss. That pronunciation is kind of attractive.
