If Caemlyn is named Caemlyn in acknowledgment to David Lynn, and huckleberry is in acknowledgment of Barry, is Malcolm too much of a stretch for Max Leland?
Also, Wdyto Gilead Malcolm?
And, what would you us as a third name, either before or after Malcolm? Josiah, Liam, Reilly, Levi, Lee, Jesse, other?

You're Honoring is a bit far fetched to me. I still can't get over how awesome the name Max Leland is though. Why don't you just use Max or Leland as a middle name for honouring? Does the first name have to be honoring? You should pick something you love rather than pick something that is very remotely similar to someone you are honouring.
That said, if you love the name use it. However I think Gilead is pretty awful. Malcolm isn't great but that's because I have bad associations, it's a fine name.
If it were me, I would just pick something I thought was awesome, not worrying about whether it's honoring, and have Max or Leland as middle names.

I hope you guys get to use Gilead, what a cool name.
I'd use Simon at the end of that combo - "hearkening." I think Malcolm works well for Max Leland.

Yes, too much of a stretch. The other two are pushing it a bit, but Malcolm for Max Leland is too far for me.
Gilead Malcolm is alright, but Malcolm Gilead is better!

TBH, all of your honoring names seem a stretch to me, though Malcolm more son. However Malcom's very nice, much more so than Gilead which reminds me of the Republic of Gilead in The Handsmaid Tale and sounds fundamentalist. I'd rather see Malcolm Gilead.

The "honoring" logic seems forced and tortured, not yet to the point of nonsensical but headed that way. Malcolm is a perfectly fine name, give it the dignity of standing for itself.
