[Opinions] How do you pronounce Thalia?
I just am wondering how everyone on here pronounces it, since it is one of my favorites and I realize that everyone says it differently.
Thanks!

I say THA-lee-uh, but I know people who say TA-lee-uh.

I've never met a Thalia and can only go by my immediate instinct - THA-lee-uh
Here in Australia the similar name Tahlia has been popular for some years.

I've known two, one Tahlia and one Thalia, both pronounced their names TAL-yah.

This is how I pronounce it too - similar to Talya.

The original version would be tha LYE uh - Greek 'th' is as in 'thing'. Wikipedia agrees, see their IPA for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalia

Tah LEE uh, like the Mexican singer. I know a girl with this as her mn, and a Taleah. I like the Thalia spelling better.

I say TALL-ee-uh.

I pronounce it TAH-lee-a. I live in Germany (although I'm from the UK) and there's a chain of bookshops here called Thalia and it's pronounced like that.

We had a little girl called Thalia at the school I was last at.I'm not sure how it was supposed to be pronounced because I heard everybody say it differently. Personally I alternated between TAH-lee-ah and TAR-lee-ah - I prefer the second I think it was the one most sued.

I stare at Thalia in utter confusion every time I see it. My thought process follows a line something like this: Talia (TA-lee-ah) is so pretty, why'd they have go and complicate things....is it ta-LEE-ah, no I think that's spelled Taliah...but wait, maybe Thalia is related to the French spelling Nathalie...so then I don't pronounce the h right....so is it still TA-lee-ah....but then why the h...it must be THA-lee-ah, but I've never heard of anyone named that....is that even a legit pronunciation...I should look this up once...Yup utter confusion.

I would like to say it's pronounced as if it rhymes with Dahlia, but that's incorrect, I know. That's just what I'd prefer.I'm fairly positive in the Greek language, it would be tah-LYE-ah. I did a bit of research on that one a while back. I still love tah-LYE-ah, but I'd quite like it to be THAL-lee-ah. *shrug*

Thanks for all your responses!!!
I see that this name is definitely going to have some pronunciations issues! I grew up with a name with pronunciations, so I try to avoid them, but I just love Thalia, so it stays.
I pronounce it something like Tha-lee-uh or Thal-lee-uh, with a short a as in apple, since I'm really bad at showing my phonetics.
I guess I'll just have to get used to hearing it all different ways!
Thanks again
