I like it, obviously. It used to be one of my favorite names, hence why I chose it for my username. I still would consider using it, but I don't like it as much as I used to. It's one of my favorite florals, though.

I really like it on paper, but whenever I say it out loud it sounds too close to violent for my liking. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing it on somebody else / somebody else's child. :)

My state flower is the wood violet, and it's my favorite wild flower. I say VIE let. I like it as a name. I haven't met any, but I have met a Viola or two.

I know a couple of Violas, also.
The provincial flower of the province where I was born is the mayflower.If you're not familiar, it's small and pink and not showy, but has a beautiful scent.
Mayflowers are had to find, and pretty much impossible to grow, they'll choose where they like to grow.

The purple violet is the provincial flower for the province where I live, New Brunswick.
As I expect you know, they are pretty flowers (and there are white violets, too), but only pretty growing; they're so small and frail that if you pick them, they die quickly.
So I find the name kind of frail and pale too.Also, I'd have a tendency to say "Vi'let",leaving out the "o".
I know of a baby girl named Violet, grand-daughter of a friend. This child was nearly named Harlow, which, if it's not a family name(it wasn't), I don't like, so Violet was the better choice there.

Yeah, the frail part and the saying 'shrinking violet" bother me, too. Part of the reason that I wouldn't use it, despite finding it so pretty.

This name has been growing on me lately. I always thought it was okay, but lately I am starting to love it.

Ah, Violet. Violet and Virginia stick out as practically the only V girls' names I don't like. It's not clunky like Virginia, so I'm not sure what it is about it that makes me not like it. Maybe that the color violet always makes me think of very ancient ladies? Maybe because it's so close to the word "violent"? Whatever it is, I just can't like it.

It's okay, but only just okay. It's a pretty color and a nice scent, and it isn't as spineless as Lily, but it's still cutesy fairy-tale-ish.

I love Violet. Come to think of it, Miriam and Violet are basically perfect together.

I like Violet. Mostly. I have some mixed feelings because it kind of feels like a very weak name. Same with Lily, which I love. I think Violet would complement a name like Matilda or Ingrid or Natalia or Greta or Cora really nicely because they have kind of harder-sounding consonants and vowel sounds. Violet seems to drift off into the distance. Which can be nice, of course. It's a really dreamy, romantic name. Yeah, my thoughts are pretty confused on Violet. I actually met someone called Violette recently. It was nice to hear it on a person. And not a baby or toddler - she was about eighteen. I think Violet/Violette would age really well.

I love it. It is a little on the popular side for my tastes, but not terribly so. And it's my niece's name... she's a prickly little spitfire and I adore her :) The juxtaposition between her name and her personality is just delicious :-D

I think it's a lovely name and a gorgeous colour and flower to boot. It's a name that ages well too imo.

I don't get why Violet gets so much hatred. There are plenty of names out there that people hate which have negative associations (I speak, of course, of the superficial similarity between Violet and 'violent') and which wouldn't have amazing associations or sounds if a letter or two were changed.
Personally, I think Violet is very pretty in look and sound. I think it's just a vibrant and interesting name, which immediately grabs the eye, looks lovely on paper and just sounds fun and different, feminine and traditional without being OTT.
Violet is a name for any amount of sweet and pretty little garden flowers, some of which are rather lovely indeed. Violet notes in perfume are very popular and widely used. Purple is a wildly popular colour, and violet as a colour seems to epitomise that. Need I go on? It has possitive associations a-plenty.

Nice name. A little bit flimsy maybe, but not as flimsy as Lily - about like Mia or Jasmine, not too flimsy for me. I personally would not feel quite right to use Violet on my own daughter - that's probably just because I've never personally known a Violet, and it's only a name on paper & on characters to me. But I like it on other people, in theory.

I met a little Violet today. I was surprised at how much I liked the name. It *is* a little flimsy, especially compared to the named I normally like. I, too, wouldn't use but it is an elegant name.

I like it, but then I'm reminded of how much it sounds like "violent", and I'm turned off.
