[Opinions] Edwin?
I just starting thinking about Edwin nn "Win." I know someone who has a child named Edward "Ward," so I applied the same nm'ing technique. I think Edwin is a perfectly fine name, though I've never really considered it much. With the nn Win, it really appeals to me. WDYT? Is Win dumb? Overly preppy/self-important/something else? Is a kid called Win destined to lose? What do you think of Edwin?

I went to school with an Edwin and while I didn't like the name then, I have grown to like it. Win makes a cute nn, I like it. Personally I would still choose Edmund or Edgar over Edwin though.

I think 'w's are so fun to say. I love Edward for this reason, and Edwin is right up my alley. I know it is oldschool, but there is almost something refreshing about it.Win is a pretty cool nn. I'd usually think of Winston as a good first name for this, though the character from The New Girl pretty much ruins that name for me.I think something can be preppy without being self-important. It is both a little preppy, but also a little hip.I remember reading in the Joy Luck Club about how one of the children was named Winston, because the words "wins" and "ton". Some people think naming your child something like this draws positive energy to them, so I think it is all in your philosphy, here. :)

I know a five year old Edwin from Honduras, and the name has grown on me for a kid. The only other Edwin I can think of is my cousins' late grandfather, who was a farmer. Since Winnie is a common nn for Winifred, I don't see how Win would be odd, but I'd probably stick to Ed/ Eddie.

In theory, I am immensely fond of Edwin. I'd stick an extra N on Win, just because. However, whenever I've seen Edwin in real life, I've found it utterly insufferable and pretentious. Edwin either struggles to carry off his name and seems all too youthful for it, or he speaks through his nose and finds himself entirely worthy of such a sophisticated name. It just makes me cringe, and it's normally part of a sibset that makes me cringe further.

I like Wynn a lot, so Win as a nickname I like too. I'm able to look past the word, and since it's a nickname I'd imagine he'd be called Win but not actually have it written down often at all. So the spelling wouldn't be much of an issue even. (Though I do appreciate your "Win being destined to lose." hehe) I think Edwin is very handsome. It's probably my favorite Ed- name. I'd love to see it use more and I think it has a smoother sound that would fit in today better than other Ed- names.

A kid called Win is absolutely destined to lose. Haha. JK. I like Edwin. It's my dad's name. Win is not a nn I've ever thought about but I kind of like it. I do prefer Edwin in full, though. Win does distract from the horrible teasing Edwina nn (this is what we call my dad)
