[Opinions] Javert
I've just read about a guy who called his son Javert (zha-vair), like the inspector in Les Miserables. WDYT??

Brave man... I mean Les Miserables is quite a well known book, and Javert is not a positive character. It sounds nice though.

i love Les Miserables, but Javert is not the one i would want to name my child after. although there is nothing unusual about Jean Valjean

I love Les Miserables, and Inspector Javert is one of my favorite characters... but WHAT?! No one besides Les Mis fans will even know how to prn it (and even some of us screw it up). and Jah-vert sounds so bad. The name itself IS nice but I canNOT see it on an actual little boy, unless maybe he's French and his parents actually speak it, maybe...I think that this is taking the surname-as-first-name trend a little far, personally.Though on that note, names from Les Mis I would consider using:
Cosette
Fantine
Marius
Madeleine (JVJ's alias)

Actually he got the French pronounciation right: zha-vair. No ja-veer, no zha-vert... lol
I like Javert (the character) too, but I can imagine the school teasings a kid would go through with such a name... "So, when are you going to jump in the Seine?", "Why won't you let Jean Valjean alone?" and all. It's still far better than Thénardier though.

HAHAHA true.. but most school-age people who would KNOW Les Mis are old enough not say such childish things, and if they do they're just immature.I didn't say these parents got the prn wrong, just that people who see it and aren't familiar with Les Mis will. And yah, definitely better than Thenardier!! hehehe

I could never associate it with anything but Les Miserables (which is one of my favorite books). It would seem strange to me on a real person. Besides, I don't think I would have chosen that particular character to name a child after.
