[Opinions] Deirdre
This name has really been growing on me. I pronounce it "deer-druh". How would you pronounce it? Any general thoughts?

I knew several girls named Deirdre while growing up. They were all called Dee or DeeDee (spellings?). I pronounce it the way you do although some of these girls pronounced it DEE-druh which is where I suppose the nn Dee comes from.Overall, I really like Deidre. It should make a comeback.

I pronounce it as you do and I like. No specific associations; could be anyone and I can imagine it at any age.

I'd say it the same. I used to like it when I was a teenager. I went to high school with one (she pronounced it the same). I thought it was pretty, and there's something a bit forlorn about it that I think is interesting. I guess I'd say I'm neutral on it now.

I pronounce it the same way you do.I'm not a fan of Deirdre at all. The sound of it isn't pleasant and it's not attractive or pretty sounding.

I had a second cousin named Deirdre. Funny that you ask about pronunciation because I noticed that my mother always pronounced it "DEE-et-ra", with a hard T in the middle there. I said Deirdre "deer-druh" and wondered why my mom said it that way and if she was just wrong or if it was a legitimate alternate pronunciation.Anyway, I don't like it. No particular reason other than I just don't think it's pretty or sounds attractive.

I pronounce it the same way you do. I like it well enough, though not enough to use it myself. I think it has a quiet, slighty melancholy, vibe.

I've only ever heard it sounding more like deer-dray. So that would be my guess, though I've never heard it said by an Irish person.I don't mind it, but there are so many nicer names out there that I never really give it a thought.

I like it, though I wouldn't use it because it doesn't fit my crieria. But I'd love to meet a little Deirdre.

I pronounce it deer-dree, I'm Aussie. I like it though I wouldn't use it myself. I think it is classic but uncommon and still has a certain charm.

I only know one Deirdre, and she pronounces it DEER-drə, so that's how I pronounce it.I think it's beautiful, in an understated way.

I love that name ... as DER-drə (Der like the word dare). But everyone says DEER-dree, so I have sort of stashed it away as a fantasy name, a name I can't really like in real life because it's DEER-dree to everyone else. DEER-drə is nice too, even DEER-dree is nice, but not as appealing as DER-drə in my opinion. It has a sixties-exotic-name vibe. With Colleen and Shannon and Yvonne and Jodi.
The sound of it makes me think of forests.

I definitely pronounce it the same, "DEER-drə". I really adore this name even though it does remind me of the word "dreary". It mainly makes me think of forests and sunlight streaming through trees, a very earthy name.Deer or Dear would be a cute nickname! But I'm pretty cheesy, particularly when it comes to nicknames.
